Opportunity for an experienced solar professional to join one of the UK's leading utility-scale solar developers, as a key member of the team responsible for delivering a large portfolio of PV projects throughout the country.

The Project Manager, Development will guide projects through the planning and development process, ensuring alignment of developer, investor, and landowner interests. Working with various internal and external stakeholders including planning consultants, the in-house development team, and legal, this is a key role within a fast-growing business.

This position can be worked either remotely, or from one of the company's UK offices.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a number of live projects through different stages of the planning process
  • Pursue and unlock challenging projects through strategic thinking
  • Understand, in detail, each site's characteristics, constraints, and planning challenges via site visits and desk-based analysis
  • Work with external planning consultants and a lean internal development team, tasked with preparation of applications
  • Represent the company effectively and in a positive manner, in front of a varied group of external stakeholders, at all levels
  • Identify development opportunities in conjunction with the wider development team
  • Undertake initial desk-based planning, feasibility studies for new opportunities
  • Generate and disseminate template documents to wider development and investment teams
  • Provide regular updates on site status and new opportunities
  • Engage with local authorities, councils and community groups throughout the planning process
  • Attend public consultations and planning committee meetings on company behalf
  • Collaborate with landowners and agents effectively and as required, to facilitate access for planning studies and ensure consistency with their interests
  • Travel to sites as required

Requirements

  • Degree level education
  • 3+ years' experience in planning, land, and/or development roles
  • Ability and willingness to undertake regular site visits and assessments
  • Eagerness to learn and development within an experienced Solar development team
  • Strong commercial awareness and appreciation
  • Experience managing external consultants
  • Strong communicator
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Full driver's license
  • Right to live and work in UK
  • Knowledge of UK planning system desired
  • Understanding of UK Solar development and construction process
  • Experience working with legal teams on land agreements advantageous
  • Experience using GIS/planning software
